Invent a tiny world worth exploring

By Aamir1 min read

Build a playful setting with its own rules, then use it for a story, game night or visual experiment.

Before you start

A strange combination, a main character and one constraint. “A library on the moon where books predict yesterday” is enough to begin.

The workflow

1. Start with an interesting rule

Give the world one rule that creates choices. A floating city is scenery; a city that floats only while everyone tells the truth creates a story.

2. Create a compact world sheet

Define the place, three rules, a few characters and a problem. Tell the assistant what to avoid and ask it to preserve these details in later scenes.

3. Choose how to play

Ask for an opening scene, three character decisions or a short game you can play with friends. For a visual experiment, translate the world sheet into a consistent art-direction brief.

4. Make continuity part of the game

After each scene, record what changed. Correct contradictions before adding more lore. Give human players real choices rather than having the assistant decide their actions.

Starter prompt
Help me invent a small fictional world.

Premise: [STRANGE COMBINATION]. Audience: [AGE GROUP / TONE].

Give me: one defining rule, three places, two characters with conflicting goals, and a problem that creates a choice.

Keep it original and coherent. Avoid copying an existing franchise.

Finish with three possible opening scenes; do not choose for me.

Open in

Make it concrete

A miniature post office delivers messages between dreams. The challenge: every message loses one word each time someone reads it. What would you send?

Check the result

A useful world has a rule you can remember and a decision you want to make. Keep a short continuity sheet instead of generating pages of disconnected lore.

Keep going
